I am currently in the middle of reading The Magic of Ordinary Days. I started this during nap time and even with numerous interruptions I have managed to finish half of the book. The reason I've decided to contribute to the blog at this moment is that something has really touched. Livvy has just had her first examination by the local doctor and he has told her that many babies born under similar circumstances often become the most loved after they are born. This got me really thinking about my own children.
For many years before I met my husband I swore I would never have children. The birthing experience scared me and I just wasn't sure I wanted to devote the time an energy to children. I met Brian and knew immediately that I wanted to have kids with him. I was elated when I became pregnant and blessed with incredible fertility as it was immediate both times. I admit though once I had Bailey I didn't love her immediately. I loved her of course, but I didn't LOVE her. I'm still not sure I LOVED her when Riley was born, nor Riley for that matter. Only now can I say that I truly and deeply love my children and their personalities. They are such individuals and now that I recognize this I have come to appreciate that fact. I wonder if it is like that for many of us. I wonder if many women lie because they are embarrassed to admit that they had to learn to love their kids no matter how much they were wanted. I look forward to seeing what happens with Libby.
